Switching from Deputy to Yes Chef: what comes across and what does not

Yes Chef makes restaurant management software. This page is written by us; competitor details are from their own sites on the date shown.

The rota scrolled down to front of house: each day’s shifts by person, with the people on now marked.
The team list: ten people, each with their area, and tabs for time off, timesheets and training.

In short

  • We run an importer that brings your location, its areas, people, published shifts, timesheets and leave across from Deputy.
  • Availability is not brought across.
  • It is done by us as part of setting you up. It is not self-service.
  • Stay on Deputy if you need an Android app, a till other than SumUp POS Pro, a payroll integration, or a published price and a free trial.

Who this is for

A restaurant that runs its rota on Deputy and is weighing up Yes Chef, or is looking at Deputy alternatives in general. Deputy is a rota, timesheet, clock-in and leave tool for shift businesses of any sector. Yes Chef is one app for a restaurant, of which the rota is a part. Moving makes sense if you want the rest of the app; it makes little sense for the rota alone.

What comes across

We run an importer that brings these across from Deputy:

What Yes Chef’s Deputy importer brings across today.

So your team, the rota you have already published, the hours people have worked and the leave on record are there when you start, rather than a blank week.

What does not

Availability is not brought across. If your staff have set the days they can and cannot work in Deputy, that will need setting again. Anything not in the table above, assume it does not move, and ask us about it before you decide.

How it is done

By us. The importer is not a button in the app and it is not self-service: you get in touch, and we run it for your restaurant as part of setting you up. That is how every Yes Chef restaurant starts. There is no sign-up form and no free trial, so you cannot run both side by side on your own before talking to us.

What you are paying Deputy now

For reference, Deputy’s published UK prices on 13 October 2026 were, per user per month before tax:

PlanAnnual billingMonthly billing
Lite£3.25£3.60
Core£4.25£4.75
Pro (button reads “Contact us”)£6.50£7.25
As published on each company’s own site on 13 October 2026. Prices exclude VAT. Source: deputy.com/gb/pricing.

Add-ons are per user per month: HR £2, Messaging+ £1.40, Analytics+ £1, the last two included in Pro. Monthly plans carry a minimum spend of £20 per month per invoice. For 25 people on Lite that is £81.25 a month on annual billing or £90.00 on monthly.

Yes Chef does not publish a price, so we cannot show you a saving here and will not claim one. Check your own Deputy agreement for its billing period before you plan a date.

What Deputy does that Yes Chef does not

Stay on Deputy if any of these matters to you.

  • Android. Deputy has web, iOS and Android apps, and says clock-in works on tablet, mobile, web and watch. Yes Chef has a web app and an iPhone app. There is no Android app.
  • Your till. Deputy lists integrations with Clover, Epos Now, Lightspeed, Redcat, Revel, Square, Tabology and Vend. Yes Chef connects live to one till, SumUp POS Pro. SumUp was not on Deputy’s list on the day we read it, so the two cover different tills.
  • Payroll. Deputy lists payroll and accounts integrations including Xero, Sage, QuickBooks, PayCaptain and MyPAYE. Yes Chef has no payroll integration. It exports approved timesheets as a CSV file.
  • A price and a trial up front. Deputy publishes its prices and offers a free trial on Lite and Core. We do neither.
  • Track record. Yes Chef is new and offered to a limited number of restaurants. We have no customer numbers or case studies to point you to.

Integrations as listed on Deputy’s integrations page and platforms and prices on its pricing page, 13 October 2026.

What Yes Chef adds

On the rota itself: labour cost shown as you build the week, whole-week templates, clock in and out, timesheets, time off and holiday, open shifts, team messaging, meetings, training, onboarding and probation.

The week’s rota on an iPhone, scrolled from the kitchen’s shifts to front of house. Shifts, hours and labour % run along the top.

Beside the rota, in the same app:

The checks list: a score of 10, seven on time, none late or missed, then the day’s checks, each done one with its time and the name of who did it.
Insights for 5 to 11 October: a brief saying labour is at 25.3% against a 16–28% target, then sales £23,500, wages £4,935 and sales per hour £58.90.

Not there yet: stock control and supplier ordering, both “coming soon”. The home page has a short summary of how moving over works.

Other Deputy alternatives

If you want to leave Deputy for another rota tool rather than a whole-restaurant app, RotaCloud and Planday both publish UK prices and offer a 30-day trial, and Rotaready and Harri are hospitality-specific and quote on request. They are set side by side in our guide to rota software for restaurants.

How to ask

Write to us with how many sites and people you have and which till you use. If your till is not SumUp POS Pro, say so first; it may settle the question.
