Switching from Trail to Yes Chef: how your checks move, and what stays behind

Yes Chef makes restaurant management software. This page is written by us; competitor details are from their own sites on the date shown.

In short
- There is no importer for Trail. We rebuild your checklists with you: the checks, their areas and their times.
- Past records do not come across. Keep an export of your Trail records for your own due-diligence history.
- Trail’s pricing page says all plans run on 12-month terms, so check where you are in yours.
- Stay on Trail if you only want checks, want a published price and a free trial, or rely on its integrations.
Who this is for
A restaurant that keeps its daily checks in Trail and is weighing up Yes Chef, or looking at Trail alternatives. Trail is digital checklists and record logs for hospitality sites: opening and closing, food safety, cashing up. Yes Chef is one app for a restaurant, with checks as one part beside the rota, sales and menu.
How the move works
There is no importer for Trail. Nothing is pulled out of Trail by software. Instead, we rebuild your checklists with you: the checks themselves, the areas they belong to, and the times they are due. You show us what you run today; we set it up in Yes Chef; you check it against the original before anyone relies on it.

That takes a conversation and some of your time. It is also a fair moment to drop the checks nobody has needed for a year.
What does not come across
Your past records do not come across. The checks your team completed in Trail, with their times and names, stay in Trail. Yes Chef starts recording from the day you start using it.
This matters more than it sounds. Those records are your due-diligence history, and the duty to keep them is yours, not either supplier’s. Before you end a Trail subscription, keep an export of your Trail records somewhere you control, and make sure you can open it.
| From Trail | What happens |
|---|---|
| Your checklists: the checks, their areas and times | Rebuilt in Yes Chef by us, with you |
| Past completed records | Do not come across. Keep an export |
What Trail charges, and its term
Trail’s published prices on 13 October 2026, per site per month with unlimited users:

The FAQ on Trail’s pricing page says all plans run on 12-month terms. So check where you are in yours before you plan a date; that page does not tell us what your own agreement says. Yes Chef does not publish a price, so we cannot show you a saving and will not claim one.
What Trail does that Yes Chef does not
Stay on Trail if any of these matters to you.
- You only want checks. Trail is a dedicated product for that job, with a published price for it.
- You want to try before you talk to anyone. Trail offers a 14-day free trial with no card. Yes Chef has no free trial and no sign-up form; we set each restaurant up ourselves.
- Any device, in a browser. Trail says it runs in a browser on any device with nothing to download, and has an offline mode. Yes Chef has a web app and an iPhone app, and no Android app.
- Integrations and single sign-on. Trail lists “APIs & Integrations” and SSO on Trail Evo and above. If you rely on either, ask us before assuming.
- Track record. Yes Chef is new. We have no customer numbers, case studies or certifications to show you.
All as stated on Trail’s pricing page on 13 October 2026.
What Yes Chef adds
The checks: done on a phone or a shared tablet, timed, with the name of who did each one. Incidents. A record of equipment and repairs. An inspector pack.

And around the checks, in the same app:
- The rota, with labour cost as you build it, clock in and out, timesheets and holiday.
- Team messaging, meetings, tasks, training, onboarding and probation.
- Live sales from a connected till (SumUp POS Pro is the one we connect to), with covers, spend per head and labour %.
- Menus, recipes, a prep list, waste logging and a kitchen wall screen.

One caution we give everyone: software helps you keep records. It does not make a kitchen compliant, and moving from one app to another changes nothing about what the law expects of you.
Other Trail alternatives
If you want different checks software rather than a whole-restaurant app, Navitas and Checkit bring temperature hardware, Alert65 comes with a consultancy and an advice line, and FoodDocs builds a HACCP plan from a questionnaire. FoodDocs prices in US dollars; the other three showed no price on the pages we read. They are compared in our guide to digital food-safety checks.
How to ask
Write to us with the number of sites and roughly how many checks you run a day. The home page has a short summary of how moving over works.
Questions people ask
Do my past Trail records come across to Yes Chef?
No. Past records do not come across. Keep an export of your Trail records for your own due-diligence history before you end your Trail subscription.
Is there a Trail importer?
No. We rebuild your checklists with you by hand: the checks, their areas and the times they are due.
Will using Yes Chef make my restaurant compliant?
No software can promise that. The legal duty to keep food-safety records sits with the restaurant. Yes Chef helps you keep them, with a time and a name on each check.
