Best restaurant management software in the UK: an honest guide (2026)

Yes Chef makes restaurant management software. This page is written by us; competitor details are from their own sites on the date shown.

In short
- “Restaurant management software” means four jobs: rota and people, food-safety checks, stock and ordering, and sales reporting. A till is a separate purchase.
- Nothing here is ranked. Products are grouped by the job they do, in their own words.
- Of the ten back-of-house products below, two publish a price in pounds (Deputy and Trail) and one in US dollars (MarketMan). The rest quote on request, Yes Chef included.
- Yes Chef puts rota, checks, sales and menu in one app. It is new, has no stock or ordering yet, connects to one till, and has no Android app.
What “restaurant management software” covers
The phrase is used for at least four different jobs, and most products do one or two of them:
- Rota and people: who is working, what it costs, clocking in, timesheets, holiday.
- Food-safety checks: the daily records a kitchen has to keep, with a time and a name on each.
- Stock and ordering: counts, recipe costing, supplier orders, invoices.
- Sales reporting: what the till took, set against labour and last week.

A till is a fifth thing and a separate purchase. Some tills come with back-office features; that is covered further down.
How to choose
Three questions narrow the list faster than any feature grid.
- How many sites? Several products below are built for groups. Apicbase’s entry plan starts from 5 outlets, and Fourth and Harri are aimed at large and multi-site operators. A single restaurant should ask whether it is the customer they are built for.
- Which till? Sales against labour only works if the software reads your till. Ask for the named integration, not “we integrate with tills”.
- What hurts first? If it is the rota, buy a rota. If it is the folder of paper checks, buy checks. An all-in-one earns its place when you are paying for two or three tools and re-typing between them.

The products, by the job they do
These are not ranked. We have not used every product here, so we describe what each company says it is, on its own site, and leave the judging to you. Everything in the table was read on 13 October 2026.
All-in-one back of house
Nory calls itself a restaurant operating system for multi-site and growing brands: sales forecasting, inventory and ordering, rota, payroll and a financing arm. Opsyte is a UK hospitality back office covering rota, time tracking, payroll, HR, tronc, cashing up, invoice processing and P&L. Fourth is an enterprise suite for large groups: workforce, inventory and purchasing, analytics. Yes Chef, ours, covers rota, checks, sales and menu in one app; its limits are set out below.
Rota and people
Deputy is a general-purpose rota tool: rota, timesheets, clock-in and leave for shift businesses of any sector. RotaCloud, Planday, Rotaready, Harri and Workforce.com are compared in our guide to rota software for restaurants.
Food-safety checks
Trail is digital checklists and record logs for hospitality sites: opening and closing, food safety, cashing up. Navitas, Checkit, Alert65 and FoodDocs are in our guide to digital food-safety checks.
Stock, ordering and recipe costing
MarketMan does stock, recipe costing, supplier ordering and invoice scanning. Apicbase does menu engineering, procurement, stock and sales analytics for multi-site food businesses. Procure Wizard is purchase-to-pay for hospitality: ordering, suppliers, stock, recipes and menus, invoice matching. If this is the job you need done, one of these, or Nory, is where to look. Yes Chef does not do it yet.
Reporting
Tenzo is a reporting and forecasting layer that pulls together till, labour, stock and review data. It sits on top of the other tools; it is not a rota, checks or stock tool itself.

Where Yes Chef fits
Yes Chef is for a restaurant that wants the rota, the checks, the sales picture and the menu in one place, on the web and on an iPhone. What is built today:
- Rota and people: a rota that shows labour cost as you build it, week templates, clock in and out, timesheets, time off and holiday, open shifts, team messaging, meetings, training, onboarding and probation.
- Checks: food-safety checks on a phone or a shared tablet, timed, with who did each one; incidents; equipment and repairs; an inspector pack.
- Sales: live sales from a connected till, covers, spend per head, against last week and last year, labour %, menu sales, staff performance.
- Menu and kitchen: menus, recipes, a prep list, waste logging, a kitchen wall screen and a printed-menu designer. Plus task boards.
- Ask Yes Chef: a chat that answers from your restaurant’s own data, and can make a change once you tap to confirm it.

You can watch it working or read what is in it on the home page.
Where Yes Chef is not the right choice
Pick something else if any of these is true.
- You need stock control or supplier ordering now. Neither is built. Both are marked “coming soon”, with no date.
- Your team is on Android. There is a web app and an iPhone app. There is no Android app.
- Your till is not SumUp POS Pro. That is the one till we connect to live today.
- You want payroll run from, or linked to, the same tool. Yes Chef exports approved timesheets as a CSV file. It has no payroll integration.
- You want to sign up and try it today. There is no sign-up form and no free trial. Yes Chef is offered to a limited number of restaurants, and we set each one up ourselves.
- You need a price before you talk to anyone. We do not publish one.
- You want a long track record. Yes Chef is new. We have no customer numbers, case studies, awards or certifications to show you.
If you are on Deputy or Trail today, the two switching pages say exactly what does and does not move: Deputy and Trail. For Nory there is a plain comparison.
